"content": "Frustrated by his inability to make the bakufu see reason, Go-Daigo immediately began a program of invoking the assistance of the Buddhas and laying curses upon the bakufu in order to hasten its demise. Go-Daigo's personal participation in the prayers, rituals, and exorcistic magic accompanying this strategy was regarded with some misgiving by the bakufu, since it was highly unusual for a reigning emperor to take part as an invocator in any Buddhist rites.
